The combination of tequila and triple sec make this riff on the classic Corpse Reviver remarkably Margarita-like, only with added complexity and subtlety due to the aromatised wine and faintest hint of absinthe.

A great variation on a classic. I love tequila so this is like a Christmas present 😀

This had been in my must try list for a while (until I had opened a bottle of Lillet) and now it is straight onto my Favourites list! You excelled yourself Simon!! Time for a second….

Used Tapatio 110 proof (55% ABV) Blanco Tequila and Jade Esprit Edouard Verte (72% ABV) which is an amazing Absinthe but the Tequila still shone through - tried it twice - lemon and Lime - and for me the Lime was the winner.
The Corpse is a great drink but this is the better but maybe not as many on a night!

Am I mistaken in thinking the recipe would rather lime than lemon?

You could use lime juice but I prefer it with lemon juice and a lime zest twist expressed over the cocktail.

do you recommend adding the absinthe before shaking or spraying the drink with absinthe after its in the glass?

Personally, I mix with all other ingredients so properly interacted.

Loved, loved, loved this cocktail. We had it with a hot and spicy Mexican dinner and it went perfectly. It is similar to a margarita in flavour but not as sweet. Wonderful blending of tastes. Will definitely have again.

Would Kina L’Aero D’Or work well in place of the Lillet (or Cocchi Americano)?

If you have both Kina L’Aero D’Or and Cocchi Americano Bianco then I'd use a 50:50 mix of both.

Tasted great with lime juice, Cocchi Americano and two drops grapefruit bitters in lieu of a lime twist.

I love the Corpse Reviver No. 2, it was one of the first finely-crafted by a professional, pre-prohibition era cocktails I truly enjoyed. I think I’ve nailed the recipe to my taste. When I saw this version, I was intrigued. Now that I have made it, I think it’s a very good drink. I tweaked the recipe somewhat to match my formula for the CR2. I used Cocchi Americano instead of the Lillet Blanc, and three sprays of the absinthe. Muy delicioso, y peligroso!
